Good Social Media Practice Or Customer Stalking?

Brands on Twitter and Facebook have a unique challenge when it comes to building community and support for their brand.  Do the brand managers monitoring their social media experience engage every tweet and post that mentions their name, product, service or industry? How appropriate is it to “chime in” on conversation streams with advice and “promotions?” When is the line crossed form Good Social Media Practice to Customer Stalking? Choose Your Battles As a brand manager, depending on the size and reach of your brand, you may not have the time or the staff to respond to every tweet, post

It is official you (and your Mother) can now buy a share of LinkedIn As we wrote in a previous post, more social media stocks are going public this year. Taking Social Media Public?

I am not going to lie; I have only been using Skype for five months. At my last position it was used in office to ask a quick question or discuss lunch plans. My first interview with Andrew, aka The Brand Chef, was over Skype. Last night I was going through my old business magazines and ran across an Inc. article from 2005. The article was about eBay buying Skype for $2.6 billion. I thought to myself, ‘Didn’t Microsoft just buy Skype?’ EBay admitted to overpaying for Skype in 2007. This could be true, but perhaps they just bought it

commit to something more than yourself

This is about as political as I get. Considering the events that have unfolded this week (the “untimely” demise of Osama BinLaden), I found it appropriate to speak up. Whatever side of the isle you sit on or whatever God you pray to, take heed. Look beyond yourself – just for 60 seconds. THEN, go back to what you were doing, knowing that there IS more. May 2, 2011: I watched a riveting documentary on Dr. Martin Luther King last night and felt compelled to talk about committing to something. More importantly, the relentless pursuit of committing to something greater

Hear That Ringing? It’s Your Social Media Phone…

On Wednesday of last week, I gave Mediacom a call on the Social Media Phone. HOW? By doing this, I posted on Twitter: “Hey Mediacom, my web connection is on the fritz, can you guys please give me a call?” Why did I post it to Twitter instead of just picking up my “real” phone? Well, a couple reasons: I HATE being on hold.  And anyone that’s EVER called Mediacom knows that’s their favorite game. And I know from past engagements that Mediacom is listening and answers the “Social Media Phone” Is Social Media becoming a new channel for customer

Small Business Still Requires Big Planning

There are a lot of positive signs that small businesses are starting to adopt social media marketing as an integrated component of their overall business plans. One significant change, based on a February 2010 Small Business Success Index report, is the fact that social media usage among small business jumped from a meager 12% in 2008 to 24% in the following year (Yes, doubled). Of those using social media, 69% post regular updates / articles of relevance to sites like FaceBook and LinkedIn. Two additional stats that made me smile were: 54% monitor positive / negative feedback via social networks,

Entrefest was such a HUGE success this year that we just HAD to show the world how much fun we had. The Art of Networking – by Adam Steen at Entrefest 2011

I had the honor of working with the marketing panel and producing media for Entrefest 2011 last week.  We had some spectacular speakers and some break-out sessions on marketing, sales, technology, finances and management for entrepreneurs.  But as always, there were some standout sessions. Adam Steen’s (from 25 Connections) session on Networking was one that got a LOT of positive reactions.  Below, thanks to Adam and the Entrefest crew, we’ have captured and re-posted the session! (sorry for the typing and my loud laughter…  I was right behind the camera and couldn’t resist being involved!)
